Fixing Windows Update Errors

In order to ensure that all of your computer programs are working at full capacity, it is important that you update your computer on a regular basis. Updating your computer will also provide you with additional security features as well ass work out bugs that may have been in previous versions. From time to time, certain circumstances may arise that result in your updates not being able to be properly installed on your machine. This article will explore some of the most common causes of update errors, and what can be done to fix them.

Perhaps you have went to the Microsoft Updates website looking to updates some patched and drivers. But instead of successfully completing an update, you keep getting an error message that says that “Windows Update has encountered an error and cannot display the requested page.” This type of error is usually the result of a breach of communication between the Microsoft Updates website and the two technologies needed to communicate with it (ActiveX and SSL). This is a very common (and frustrating) problem, but it can be easily fixed.

In order to successfully troubleshoot the problem, you will need to go to the Windows Update Log and search for any errors. If an error exists, you will get a message followed by a numerical code. This code is very important to getting to the bottom of your problem. Copy and paste the code and then go back to the Microsoft Updates website. There is a section where they have a detailed list of instructions to help fix every update error associated with that specific error code. You also want to make sure that your web browser is configured to use SSL 2.0 and SSL 3.0. If SSL is not properly configured, you will not be able to successfully update any of your applications.
